GWN Sport Regatta becomes Dragon Boat Canada Qualifier

The GWN Sport Regatta has been officially designated as a Dragon Boat Canada (DBC) Club Crew Qualifier. This is the first time in over a decade that the GWN Sport Regatta has held this status, providing teams with a crucial opportunity to qualify for the 2026 Club Crew World Championships in Hualien, Taiwan.

Scheduled for July 12, 2025, in Toronto, the GWN Sport Regatta is a prominent event in the Major League Dragon Boat (MLDB) circuit. It features both Sport and Community divisions, with race distances of 200m, 500m, and 2,000m . The regatta is known for its competitive yet welcoming atmosphere, attracting paddlers from across North America.

The regatta’s new status as a DBC qualifier means that top-performing teams in various divisions will have the chance to qualify as a crew for the national championships.

In addition to high-level racing, the GWN Sport Regatta offers various programs for paddlers of all experience levels. The “Experience Dragon Boat” programs, for instance, provide opportunities for individuals and small groups to train and race, culminating in participation in the regatta.

The regatta also features a vibrant festival atmosphere, complete with a Health & Wellness Village, Food Truck Bazaar, and Beer Garden, making it a highlight of Toronto’s summer sports calendar.

With its renewed status as a DBC qualifier, the GWN Sport Regatta is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping Canada’s dragon boat teams for international competition in 2026.
